Speed, distance and time are linked by one simple relationship: distance equals speed multiplied by time. Choose which one you want to find, enter the other two, and the calculator does the rearranging for you.
How to use the speed, distance and time calculator
- Choose what to calculate: distance, speed or time.
- Enter the two values you know.
- Read the answer, plus the time in hours and minutes and the imperial equivalents.
Formula
d = s × t
Where d is the distance (km), s is the speed (km/h), t is the time (h).
Choose any value to calculate — the calculator rearranges the formula for you.
The three versions of the formula
Distance = Speed × Time. Speed = Distance ÷ Time. Time = Distance ÷ Speed. Make sure the units match — a speed in km/h with a time in hours gives a distance in km.
Worked example
A 120 km trip at an average of 60 km/h takes 120 ÷ 60 = 2 hours. At 80 km/h it would take 1.5 hours, or 1 h 30 min.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate travel time?
Divide the distance by your average speed. 150 km at 100 km/h takes 1.5 hours.
How do I convert decimal hours to minutes?
Multiply the decimal part by 60. 1.75 hours is 1 hour plus 0.75 × 60 = 45 minutes.
